35th Anniversary Celebration
ProCAT is celebrating its 35th year of service to the court reporting industry. We thank our clients and the market for their loyalty and support over the past three-plus decades. We could not have reached this milestone without their support.
Our string of contributions to the industry started back to 1984 when we introduced the first professional computer-aided transcription (ProCAT) system based on an IBM PC for less than a third of the price of a competing unit offered by the competition. Here are some the other “industry firsts” which we invented:
- First CAT software based on the new and revolutionary IBM PC
- First CAT vendor to sell software only
- First single pass CAT editor
- Simple user interface
- First realtime dictionary builder
- By far the fastest editor of its time
- Spelling checker
- Ability to produce ASCII files out of the box
- First CAT software with colors to distinguish between untranslated steno, conflicts, etc.
- First CAT software to print pleading forms on plain paper with laser printers — that killed the pre-printed papers!
- First automatic number conversion using dictionary entries
- First automatic suggestion (AutoEdit)
- First automatic indexing (AutoIndex)
- First automatic style checker (AutoProof)
- RTF/CRE contributor and core designer group
- First Windows-based CAT software
- First portable realtime CAT system (introduced in 1986)
- First electronic steno writer using nonvolatile memory — now known as Flash Memory
- First steno writer with the longest battery life — 30 to 40 hours
- First true what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor with double/single spacing
- First realtime stream over the Internet — 1995 academy awards press conference
- First remote editing software on a virtual private network (VPN)
- The first electronic steno writer with audio recording, Bluetooth, and full featured realtime translation (ProCAT Stylus circa 2005)
- First CAT software capable of using the cloud to share-and-notify a scopist
- Automatic brief (AutoBrief) using Mark Kislingbury’s dictionary –renowned realtime champion
- First true interactive automatic indexing software (AutoIndex 2.0 Circa 2014)
- First truly platform agnostic realtime browser — runs on all popular Internet browsers, and much more!
These are only a partial list of the contributions we have made to the industry. We look forward to continuing to invent new ways to help our clients to continue to enjoy efficiencies not seen in other systems.
