How do I setup
my Windows ME
computer to read a Flash card?
These
card technologies are not natively supported when Windows is installed.
They, however, can be setup to work when you install the drivers that are
supplied on the Windows 98 or Windows ME CD-ROM's.
-
Before
installing, be sure your PCMCIA Socket is well settled (empty). You
can check the situation from "Control Panel" - "System
Properties" - "Device Manager" - "PCMCIA socket."
-
Insert
card into socket. "Memory Technology Drivers (MTDs)" icon will
automatically show up, double click on this.
The screen will show up "SRAM Memory Card" icon.
-
Single
click "SRAM Memory Card" icon, and then click
"Properties". Then
Click "Update Driver" and "Next" to continue.
-
Pick
up "Search for a better driver than the one your device is using
now." icon. Click "Next" to continue.
-
Pick
up "Specify a location" icon. Insert
Windows 98/ME CD and browse drivers\storage\ftl in the CD-ROM. Click
"Next" to continue
-
Click
"Finish" to close installing window.
Alternate method for users
of Windows ME
The
necessary drivers are available on the original Windows ME CD-ROM. Make
certain your CD-ROM is accessible, and then follow the instructions listed
below:
-
Launch
Window Explorer, and then go to the drivers\storage\flash directory on the
CD and look for the file named Trueffs.inf.
-
Right
click on this file and choose INSTALL from the pull down menu.
-
Make
sure that no Flash PC cards are installed in the system at this
time.
-
Reboot
the system using the cold-boot method, turn off your computer and turn it
on again.
Then insert the card and follow the prompts.
