Backing up your Voice MacrosJust like the voice models above you will at a certain point have invested enough time on these that you don’t want to lose your work.
1. Go to the Winner main screen (where the cat eyes are). 2. Click on Tools 3. Click on Edit Macros 4. Click on the first item in the listing. 5. Press down and hold the Shift key on your keyboard 6. While holding down the Shift key, press and hold down the Down Arrow 7. Continue to hold down both until the entire list is highlighted. 8. Click the Save button
Note: Your macros will always have a DCT extension.
Backing up your configuration filesThese contain all of the settings that are pertinent to how you use your software. These include things like how you want number conversion to work, which page layout to use in document creation, even the page layout itself. It can take some time to define and create all of these things; therefore it also is important to back up.
1. Go to the Winner main screen (where the CAT eyes are). 2. Click on the ArcWiz icon (the folder with the pink star in it). 3. Select Backup 4. Click Next 5. Select Backup configuration files 6. Click Next 7. Click Next again 8. Now you are presented with a screen for the name the file will get, and where it will go. The name is generally fine as it is, given how descriptive it is. However, the location it goes to should match where you have saved all of your prior backups. a. To change the location, click on the button with three dots, and browsing to the appropriate location. b. In some versions you will click a Browse button instead. 9. Click on Finish
Backing up your dictionariesQuite often people will make use of the _vrpunt.dix file. The _vrpunt.dix file allows one to control how the software interprets punctuation. You may have also defined an additional dictionary (most people call it their first name), which will compensate for any hard to train words. Both of these files should be backed up as well.
1. Exit Winner and go to the Windows Desktop (the Windows start up screen with all the icons) 2. Double click on My Computer (this could also be located in the Start button list). 3. Double click on C: drive 4. Double click on Winner 5. Double click on your User ID (this is the code you type in anytime you go into Winner). 6. Look for the first of the two dictionaries (DIX files mentioned above). 7. Right click on this file once it’s located. 8. Left click on Copy 9. Close or minimize the window you’re in. 10. Go to the location wherein you are storing all the files we’ve been backing up. 11. Right click where you want it and choose Paste. 12. Repeat steps 1-11 for the other dictionary file.
Backing up your JobsWe probably all understand the need to back up these files.
1. Go to the Winner main screen. 2. Click on the ArcWiz icon (the folder with the pink star in it). 3. Select Backup 4. Click Next 5. Select Backup user files 6. Click Next 7. Find the job you wish to back up in the list. 8. Select any additional files you wish in the lower list (e.g. WAV files or room recordings). 9. Click on Next 10. Choose the appropriate location to put these files (see Step 8 in the Winner configuration files section). 11. Click on Finish Putting it all togetherAfter accomplishing all of the above you are now ready to put everything on the CD ROM. Unfortunately, due to major differences in computer systems and CD ROM writing software I can’t give you too many guidelines. Windows however does have the ability to write to CD, and if your CD ROM writing software hasn’t disabled this feature you can follow the steps below to place your files on a CD.
Step 1This process involved Windows making a copy of the files your interested in to a temporary location for the specific purpose of writing to a CD.
1. Locate the file or folder you are interested in burning to CD. You should be aware of this location if Step 1 was done correctly. 2. Right click your file or folder 3. Go to Send 4. Click on your CD ROM. If there is not an indication of your CD ROM here. Typically you'll see the name of some burning software in which you'll have to familiarize yourself with its use.
Note: You may have noticed in the more recent version of Winner that the ArcWiz (archive wizard) has an option to Burn to a CD. If you checkmark this option, it will perform Step 2 for you.
Step 2This step actually burns the files to the CD.
1. You may notice a bubble pop up right above the time in the bottom right hand corner of the monitor. You can click on it to bring up the relevant box. Should you not see this bubble follow the additional steps listed beneath. a. Double click on My Computer b. Double click on your CD ROM drive 2. Now you should see all the files or folders which you have slated to be burned listed under the heading Files waiting to be written to CD. 3. Click on the word File at the top left corner of the box 4. Select Write these files to CD from the list. 5. Follow the wizard that is presented to you. It will give you the option of giving your CD a name. You may optionally enter a name in this box. 6. Upon completion Windows will typically eject the CD for you. Step 3 This step involved testing the CD to see if its creation was successful.
1. Find the file or folder you originally sent to the CD. 2. Right mouse click it 3. Select Properties 4. Note the file size 5. Close out all your boxes 6. Double click on My Computer 7. Double click on the CD ROM 8. Right click on the file or folder located on the CD 9. Left click on Properties 10. Compare the sizes. It should be very close or exactly the same size. 11. Assuming the above is true, restore the file to Winner via ArcWiz or whatever method you used in Step 1, and then open the file. 12. Next take the CD out of the computer and take it to another. 13. On the new computer, double click on My Computer 14. Double click on your CD ROM drive 15. Is your file there? 16. If your CD pass tests 10, 11, and 15 you’re in good shape. Delete the original. You’re done.
