How do I restore a lost Transcript?

After you have setup your Autosave and Backup Features in the Tools Preferences Menu, you now have the ability to restore your text back to the original transcript name.

Please note if you find that your original transcript is faulty and missing your editing changes, GET OUT OF THE FILE WITHOUT SAVING as soon as possible.  Remember that your Autosave feature is a timed interval in which it will automatically save what is in the job. You don’t want that interval to run while you are still checking things out. Here are the steps for restoring your Transcript.

Checking and restoring the Backup file:

  1. Open the Editor.
  2. Stop at the Open Window

  1. Change the Files of Type to All Files *.*
  2. Now look for your filename.bu and open it.
  3. IF this has all of your corrections continue to step six if not exit out and try the AUTOSAVE instructions.
  4. Click on File.
  5. Click on Save As. The Save As will open.
  6. Click on Save.
  7. A message will pop up and say “A file by this name already exists do you want to overwrite?” Click on YES.

At this point you will have your steno notes and your audio available to you. You may need to exit the file and Open it again as it may need to refresh itself.
