Dictionary Maintenance
Verify & Rebuild
Verify
When should a Reporter Verify
their dictionary? We recommend that you do it once
every two weeks. Also, if you were making a lot of changes to your dictionary
you would want to do it then, as well.
Rebuild
When should a Reporter Rebuild their
dictionary? We recommend that you do this at least once a month. You could do
it more if you feel strongly about it. What Rebuild does is it
re-alphabetizes, re-indexes, and makes the dictionary more efficient and
faster. Plus it will identify if there is a problem with the dictionary that
needs to be addressed.
Anytime that you feel that there may
be a problem with the dictionary regardless of the last time that you ran
these Utilities you should run them again.
So, please use these Utilities as
recommended. It would also be a good idea to Rebuild and Verify before you do
a regular back up of your dictionary.
What are some things that I should look for in my
Dictionary that will cause problems?
While your Winner 2000 dictionary
will work with conflicts, there are certain conflicts that will present
problems in Realtime. Any conflict that contains a bracket such as [P:COLLOQUY]
can cause your Realtime to crash. Please make sure that you don’t have these
brackets as conflicts.
What is a conflict?
Winner Xp’s definition of a
conflict is a STENO entry that exists twice in your dictionary for instance
you could have the following:
UR/AOE = = you’re
UR/AOE = = your
Do
NOT use the following:
UR/AOE = = {your’re|your}
This will cause
problems in the dictionary and Realtime.
When was the last time you backed up your dictionary?
