Can I Export a Transcript via RTF/CRE to a Word Processor (i.e. Microsoft Word)?

A detailed description of "how to create an RTF/CRE is available on this site.  Click here to view the procedure for creating an RTF/CRE file.

The question here is:  Can I export an RTF/CRE document from a CAT software into a non-CAT software (i.e. Microsoft Word).  The quick answer to that question is: yes.  But you must keep in mind that RTF/CRE files that are imported into a non-CAT software will loose their "court reporting-specific" information.  This information includes margin settings, shorthand notes, time stamping, text to steno link, line spacing, etc.

A more qualified answer to this question is: You can export an RTF/CRE into a non-CAT software as long as it is the file's final destination and you do not intend to import the file back into a CAT software.  Or, at least, import it back into your CAT software and expect it to maintain the integrity of your transcript.

An RTF/CRE-formatted transcript that is exported into a non-CAT software, edited, then exported in RTF file is no longer considered an RTF/CRE format.  The importing and exporting process causes the transcript to be stripped of its "Court Reporting Extension."

ProCAT Winner2000 software users can import their "RTF" (notice we did not say RTF/CRE) transcripts edited by a word processor.  But the transcript properties are lost (this is not a deficiency in our product rather the nature of the process).  You may be able to manually restore some the properties (i.e. line number, borders, etc.).  The time stamping will be permanently lost.
